This song is a call to arms for all Tasmanian footy fans and to anyone willing to sing along in the name of oval-shaped justice!
We need a Tasmanian Team in the AFL and AFLW competitions.
If Aussie rules is really "Australia's Game", how is it that the Apple isle; a state that is football-mad, integral to the history of the AFL and home to some of the game's finest ever players, has been left without a standalone team, while the code has instead expanded into "rugby" hubs?
What in the "devil" are they thinking? It ain't right!
The concept of a Tasmanian team has a unifying power, and would bring joy to so many children - potentially inspiring future stars that may grow up to represent their proud state!
The 2021 Finals series saw Tasmania host two incredible finals, offering a glimpse of what the future of Tasmanian football could look like, with full stadiums of smiling faces as far as the eye could see.
Like there wasn't enough reason for a team already, some people in Tassie even call Hawthorn, a suburban Victorian team, the 'Tassie Hawks'.. Every time I visit my uncle in Tasmania, I am greeted by huge Hawthorn Hawks billboards on the way out from Hobart airport. These billboards should be filled with Green, Maroon and Gold!
The thing about Tasmania, is that they've got no football team... for now!

LYRICS
I stand at the top of Kunanyi
Looking out over Hobart in spring
I remember the thrills of my young years
Hitting up leads as I charged down the wing
I might have been an AFL superstar
If it weren’t for the distance between
Because the thing about Tasmania
Is that we’ve got no football team
We’ve got world renowned scotch
By the constitution dock
Salamanca and Mona, Bellerive
We think not of the spirit
Because we’re always so near it
Scallop pies like you wouldn’t believe
We’re the highlight of this country
But divided by land and sea
And the thing about Tasmania
Is that at least for the moment, despite all our hopin'
We’ve got Blundstones and Cadbury and Cascade and Boags
But we’ve got no football team
To avoid all this outbound travel
Some of us play on Queenstown gravel
Sure we host the odd game
But that’s just not the same
Footy's part of our fabric
So we’re staking our claim!
(And how can we be blamed?)
Yes the thing about Tasmania
We’ve got Richardson’s and Riewoldt's and Hudson’s and Hart's
But we’ve got no Tasmanian team
Just imagine one day in the future
Doesn’t matter if there’s 21 teams (for NT!),
When we're having a barbie
Watching the Taswegian derby
Hobart and Launceston will be counting their blessings
Because Tassie has not one but two football teams
(Oh what a dream)
